About Plettenvale Wine Estate

We started soil preparation in early 2008 and the vines were planted in September 2008.  We planted 3000 Pinot Noir, 3000 Chardonnay and 330 Syrah vines.

Our first harvest was in 2011 and Anton Smal produced 630 bottles of Brut Rose MCC at Bramon Cellar for us.  We had a very poor harvest due to the drought conditions prevailing at the time and huge damage caused by the birds.  Still Anton managed to produce a fine bubbly for us that was completely sold out before Christmas 2012 after 12 months sur lie.

We installed bird netting in time for the next harvest and 2012 was more promising.  We produced 2800 bottles of Brut Rose MCC and 1300 bottles of Dry Rose.  We sent the grapes by refrigerated truck to Arendsig Estate in Robertson where Lourens van der Westhuizen produced the MCC and the Dry Rose that year.

In 2012 we built our own boutique winery and cellar on the estate and we now produce all our wines here.  We have a tasting facility where we offer wine tasting and sales every Saturday from 10 AM until 1 PM, all other times preferably by appointment.  We also offer cheese and wine pairing as well as chocolate and wine pairing plus tours of our winery and cellar, for all of which booking is essential.

We have expanded our range of wines to include Ruby Rush “Our Blend”, a light red blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah, an unwooded Chardonnay and a Syrah to add to our Brut Rose MCC and Dry Rose, thereby offering five wines in our range.

The awareness of the “Plett Wine Route” is growing as more of us come on stream and with promotion it will go from strength to strength.  Our region boasts so many attractions from being a premier beach resort to adventure activities and now the wine route will be the extra cherry (grape) on top for visitors.

Our small establishment allows visitors to have a very personal experience in the wine making process.  It is family run and all that goes on in the winery and cellar is visible to the visitors during our winery and cellar tour.
